The Postgraduate in Fashion Accessories Design and Leather Goods teaches professionals how to encompass and control the entire design process (materials, patterns, protocol, ergonomics), which includes producing and manufacturing a range of fashion accessories focussing on handbags and small leather goods.
With accessories, the key lies in understanding and overseeing the entire process, knowing who the technicians are and the workshops where these ideas are brought to life.
This Postgraduate Degree provides specific insight as to the techniques, materials and trends involved, as well as leveraging the experience of sector professionals and offering them patterning, design, design software, material and business tools.
This course is intended for professionals from various areas of fashion and design who wish to research innovative accessories. The objective of the programme is to provide the basic tools for developing accessory collections that include bags, leather goods, hats, textile accessories and costume jewellery, while taking into account their subsequent manufacturing and having first-hand experience of major companies in the sector that work both in and outside Catalonia.
The course combines theoretical subjects with practical workshops and includes a final project to design and make a complete collection of accessories, with its associated production and marketing viability study.
At the end of the course, the students will have the knowledge to:
. Develop a complete accessory collection design project for a brand or their own brand.
. Choose the fabrics that are or can be used, using specific technical knowledge.
. Define a wardrobe according to the type of event or function and the structure of the accessories.
. Define the general styling for a collection and match the accessories to the general concept.
The course is intended for graduates with a degree in and professionals of:
. fashion design, who wish to specialise in the world of accessories.
. product design, who wish to specialise in the world of accessories.
. other disciplines, who have creative curiosity and an interest in the in-depth study of fashion accessories, with a prior basic knowledge of pattern-making and sewing.
Participants who can prove that they have a university degree can enter the programmes. Applicants who do not have the required university degree can enter some programmes on their professional merits. In this case, it is at the discretion of IED Barcelona to decide what type of certificate they will be awarded.

Barcelona, 1984. After getting a degree in Design at EINA School, Irene studied an illustration postgraduate course at the London College of Communication. She has worked in Camper developing different functions as illustrator for shoes and handbag collections, trend analyst, coordination of collaborations with schools of art and design, search for new talent, graphic designer or as part of the organization of the Son Fortesa workshop.
In 2013 she founded her own brand of handbags and accessories, Sila. She also continues to develop projects related to fashion design, editorial and corporate identity from her own studio founded in 2014.
The educational planning for all IED Master courses is aligned with the criteria established by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The IED Master program has adopted a credit structure that follows the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The IED Master is a private degree.
